Anyone for a drink?

I like to drink a little bit every now and then. A glass of wine or a beer on any given night is great. The problem I have is that I want to find things that I like and I am to much of a cheap skate to be comfortable in trying the new things. I am usually all about giving new food a try but for some reason a bottle of wine that I might not like bothers me. I admit it is a little neurotic but that is just one of my quirks.

So, to help alleviate this, my wife and I decided to go to the local winery for our anniversary and take the tour. This included a lot of education on the wine making process and a tasting.

If you haven’t done this, you should. Make plans to go do it. This was one of the best afternoon’s that we have ever spent out that was just the two of us. I highly recommend giving it a try.

While we were there learning why the age the wine in oak barrels and which wines we do and don’t like we discovered Ice Wine.

The world will never be the same.

Ice wine originated from Germany (Eiswine). This wine is pressed from frozen grapes and seems to only provide about a drop of juice per grape. It is also one of the finest and tastiest things I think I have ever drunk.

Word of warning, this is, in my opinion, expensive compared to the other wines I have drunk but it is still the best. Search around and you can find the type and price that will work for you.

I need to find beta readers and to build a critique group in the Bloomington or Terre Haute areas of Indiana. If you are interested leave me a comment and I will get in touch with you.

I decided to change things up just a little so I wrote some poetry for this week’s post. I hope you like it and I would love to hear your comments on it.

the crawling shadow

of another day and age

stalking sanity

———-

inspiring sounds

incomprehensible fear

approaching slowly

———-

your breath comes faster

you heart begin to stutter

as you feel its gaze

———-

like a pouncing cat

muscles begin to prepare

your fight or flight drive

———-

there is no escape

from an ancient predator

just outside of time

———-

you cannot see it

but you can hear it growling

a rumbling hunger

———-

the sting really hurt

but not as much as the bite

or being eaten

Wine tasting is on my to-do list with my husband as well! We have some really nice ones down South, but having two toddlers sort of makes it hard to get there. ;0) Definitely a date night thing.

Love the imagery in your poetry. I’m not much of a poet myself, but I can appreciate it when I see it. “Stalking sanity” was amazing. Love that line.

      Thank you very much.

We have four kids so it was a date day. We also went to visit a honey farm and to see a movie. One of the few “Dates” that we didn’t stop for groceries on the way home.
